A Fistful of Silverware

Episode — Standalone | Genre: Shonen | Date: 2026-05-25

Ethan had never seen a man move like that. The stranger in the pantry -- tall, lean, dressed in what might generously be called a maintenance uniform -- had just vaulted over a stack of crates, grabbed the silver chest, and disappeared through the servants' passage in less than four seconds.

"Lucas!" Ethan shouted. "Olivia! Runner! Pantry access toward the kitchen!"

Lucas appeared from the west corridor, a tablet in one hand. "What kind of runner?"

"Silverware. Full chest. Professional."

"Professional silverware thieves are not real."

"That guy did not get the memo."

They gave chase. Lucas was faster than Ethan expected -- the young apprentice had long legs and a determined stride. Together they burst through the kitchen doors and into the back hallway, where Olivia was already standing with a heavy book in her hands and a triumphant expression.

"He went out the back door," she said. "I locked it."

"Already?" Ethan skidded to a halt. "How did you lock it from here?"

"I saw him coming through the courtyard window five minutes ago. When he entered the pantry, I circled around." She held up the book -- a thick Victorian-era botanical encyclopedia. "I also took this. It was the closest thing to a weapon."

"You predicted a silverware thief five minutes before he arrived."

"I research household security protocols in my free time. Sue me."

The back door rattled. The thief was trying to force it open.

Ethan grinned. "Lucas, flank him through the garden door. Olivia, stay here. If he breaks through, you have my permission to hit him with botanical knowledge."

"The book or the facts?"

"Both."

Lucas slipped through the side passage. Ethan positioned himself in front of the rattling door, rolling up his sleeves.

The lock held for another ten seconds. Then it gave way with a splintering crack.

The thief burst through -- and found himself face to face with Ethan's fist.

"Good evening," Ethan said. "I believe you have something that belongs to Lady Penelope's silver inventory."

The thief dropped the chest. It clattered across the tiles, spilling forks and spoons across the floor.

"I surrender," he said. "You people are insane."

Behind him, Lucas appeared in the garden doorway, tablet raised like a shield. Olivia stood ready with her encyclopedia. And somewhere in the distance, Victor's footsteps were approaching at a steady, ominous pace.

The silver was safe. The household's dignity was intact. And dinner service would proceed on schedule.
